CHIN AUGMENTATION

The need for augmentation of the chin is determined by facial measurements called cephalometrics. This means a true horizontal side view of a patient is established. Then a straight drop line going from the forehead to and through the lip should continue down and touch the tip of the chin. If the patient's actual chin is at this line then this is considered normal. If it is in front of this line then it is called prognathism or commonly 'lantern jaw'. The most famous person with this is Jay Leno of the Tonight Show. If the patients chin is behind this vertical line then it is called retrognathism or small chin. These patients are good candidates for conservative augmentation of the chin. when this procedure is done under these conditions the face appears more balanced with the nose eyes and mouth and appears more graceful looking.

Dr. Romo only uses implants made from the same material that artificial arteries are made from. they are very safe and stable having been used for more than forty years. The implants are flexible and therefore can be inserted through small incisions and are very natural feeling.

Chin implant placement is commonly accompanied with liposuction of the neck. This allows the lower facial skin and neck to shrink-wrap down to the new form, producing a stronger better-contoured chin.
